It's most popular use is to remotely control the air whistle on a yarder. It is also used to remotely control the various types of skyline carriages. The handheld carriage transmitter can provide up to eight functions and voice. Talkie Tooter Safety Tone transmitter signal can only be accepted by its own receiver. The Talkie Tooter receiver will only accept the signal from it's own transmitter. Talkie Tooters can be operated side by side without fear of cross signaling. This operation is achieved by interrogating every control signal that is transmitted. Two separate tones are transmitted sequentially. The first tone is a pulse of a predetermined length. This tone is identified and, if accepted, opens a circuit to allow interrogation of a second tone. If it is accepted, the control function is completed. The Talkie Tooter transmitter will send voice messages to the receiver. This provides for the crew in emergencies and allows for situations not covered by standard whistle signals. Two switches are used to activate the control signal. To eliminate malfunction due to water, humidity, dust or pollution. Transmitter switches are in airtight transmitter cases. The transmitter case is protected with a neoprene rubber boot. The standard for the transmitter is a 10 foot drop to a concrete floor. The Talkie Tooter construction provides for shock and vibration. The circuit design provides a tolerance to changes in temperature, barometric pressure and humidity. Final testing of the equipment is extensive and includes these tolerances as well as transmission distance and compliance with federal and state requirements. The radio system includes a receiver, one or more transmitters, antenna, speaker, automatic transmitter charger, installation panel with cabling and hardware. All cable connectors are different, making improper connection impossible. An installation, operation and trouble-shooting manual is included. The Talkie Tooter transmitter is carried and operated on the hip. Accurate signals can be sent while moving or watching for danger. The Talkie Tooter transmitter is carried on a quick release belt and the attachment between belt and transmitter will break away in an emergency.
